If you decide on more expensive floor like parquet or marble, you might want to install the basic kitchen cabinets before the flooring.

Definitely install the flooring first before the cabinets.
Wall to wall flooring installation is the way to go.

If you install the cabinets first you are opening yourself up to a potential problem for the dishwasher fitting or if it has to be removed some day you may have to remove some flooring to get it out.

If you are installing ceramic tile remember the cement board that should go down first as a substrate.
This can add to the floor height and lock in your dishwasher

If I am laying a more expensive kitchen floor in one of my rental units using tile I would always lay it before fixing the kitchen cabinets. I would even lay vinyl covering before fixing the cabinets. It doesn't matter so much with vinyl as the cost is lower but I just think it's looks so much more professional.
