You can minimize your cost of remodeling a part of your house if you know how to recycle useful materials you can find there. Maybe you could repair, repaint or polish it to look new again.

Great article. I have been using recycled building materials for my most recent remodeling projects. Not only do I help the environment but it adds character. I made a patio of used bricks it has so much more character than new brick.

I agree that remodeling any part of a building should include consideration for recycling. I have renovated many homes, all of which were completed with second hand materials and furnishing. Our kitchen was taken from a house that was being demolished. The kitchen was 2 years old and in perfect condition. We paid 800.00 for it. This included under bench, hotplates. Furthermore, our gorgeous bathroom cost a mere 400.00 in total. That was for wall tiles and paint. All white tiles with sage green fittings, deep gray/purple walls and timber floors. Just beautiful.

I know from personal experience in the past when demolishing a house how much makes it to the landfill. I've been "going green" as much as possible but, I didn't think many items from demolishing a house could be recycled. Living in FL where it's always nice it’s easier to find more opportunities to get involved. That and the fact I live in a hurricane zone, during the season unfortunately there are many people separated from their homes.

Thanks so much for the article. It is so important to recycle old materials when possible and Habitat for Humanity is a great organization to donate them to. I would love to see people doing this more often!

We work with clients who tear down homes all the time. It was amazing in the old days that all that debris went to the landfill. Now it's easy to find companies that will come out and strip the house. Then what is left is sorted to be recycled.
