  1. As a home improvement contractor in Massachusetts, one of the most important ways to retain the value of your home, is having a more energy efficient home. Having a home more energy efficient is more attractive to potential buyers - with long term energy savings. Such energy efficient products would involve having energy efficient windows and doors.

  2. This is really a great post, most people are lacking in the home improvement department. My thoughts are that they just don’t think that they can do it or just lack the motivation, because they have no ideas or plans on how to get started. I really enjoyed reading this and I am going to pass it along to a few of my friends, they are going to love this! That book looks awesome, I think I am going to read up more about it and maybe purchase it later on this evening.

  3. I find that home remodeling projects do indeed increase a property’s value. Prices are at an all time low at this point in time and if you’re planning to sell your home, consider a remodeling project to somehow increase your home’s property. Check out the ways in which you can increase your home’s energy efficiency; it’s also a good way to save on the long-term if you’re not moving out of your home.

Another tip: hire contractors if you don’t have DIY skills. Yes, you might save a few hundred $ if you do your own projects, but the opposite can also happen: You can end up spending more time and money if you don’t know what you are doing.

  4. Some nice tips on remodeling ones home. What would be better is to use energy efficient building materials while remodeling the house to decrease the effects of Global warming.

  5. Any one considering home improvement, whether you are a home builder or planning to use a construction builder make sure that you weigh up the costs of the improvement against the amount that you are likely to recover. Areas to focus on when considering improvements relative to possible resale are the kitchen, adding an extra bathroom perhaps a patio or deck.

If you are remodeling your home for your own purposes then a designer kitchen is a great idea as well. Just make sure that whatever your motivation for your home improvement that you check all costs thoroughly. As Jeff says, it may be worthwhile using a contracting services rather than trying to do things yourself as you can end up costing yourself more money if you get it wrong!

  6. As a Realtor for the past twenty three years, I can attest that knowing which projects you do around the house can have a tremendous impact when it comes time to sell. There are some project that have a great return and others not so much. Kitchens and baths are usually two of the best places to invest in a home.

  7. If you own a house long enough, you’ll be faced with a variety of repairs — like patching a hole in the wall for example. If it’s in an obvious area in the home, then a little more care is required. But the good news is that it’s not difficult to repair. If fact, with a little practice, no one will know the hole was ever there.

  8. Nice post on DIY Tips :)

Around two years ago I went to China where I saw an arrangement of the most beautiful Sanctuary Gardens I have ever seen. They were absoloutey stunning - and the people were delightful. One person even let me help dig two trenches for some old timber that was going to make up a small vegetable patch :D - just making my mark in China aha. DIY bring it one :P

    Thanks.

  9. Yeah If you have your own home I suppose at some point it is inevitable you’ll have to do some maintenance from time to time.

  10. Excellent post! Home improvement and maintenance helps in enhancing the beauty of your home and if you’re into selling those houses of yours, making home improvements also can help move your home off the market.

  11. Right now your home has to be near flawless in order to sell it. It’s really difficult to put money into a house that has little to no equity though!
